Without a vignette in Moldova: fines and checks
Last checked: 4 November 2026
Anyone using the roads of the Republic of Moldova with a foreign-registered vehicle and no valid vignette risks a fine.
How much is the fine?
- Using the roads without a vignette for less than 7 days: 45–60 conventional units, i.e. 2,250–3,000 lei.
- More than 7 days: 60–78 conventional units (3,000–3,900 lei).
- One conventional unit is 50 lei (as of 2026).
The fine does not replace the vignette
Paying only the fine is not enough: the vignette must be paid as well. The border police do not let the vehicle leave the country until the vignette and the fine have been paid.
How it is checked
The vignette is electronic and is checked by the plate and the country of registration, at the border and on the road. A wrong plate or country can be treated like a missing vignette – see Moldova vignette check and a wrong plate.
You can order the Moldova vignette online before you travel with us.
