Moldova e-vignette: how it works
Last checked: 4 November 2026
The vignette (vinieta) is the fee for using the roads of the Republic of Moldova with vehicles not registered in the Republic of Moldova. It has applied since 1 November 2012 and today it is electronic only.
How the e-vignette works
- There is no sticker: the vignette is linked to the licence plate and the country of registration.
- It is valid from 00:00 on the chosen start day until 24:00 on its last day.
- The e-Vinieta system allows checks in the database without stopping the vehicle.
- The plate is entered without hyphens or spaces; a wrong plate or country can be treated like a missing vignette.
Who pays the vignette
Any person or company owning a vehicle not registered in the Republic of Moldova that enters the country or passes through it in transit.
Who does not need a vignette
- Vehicles registered in the Republic of Moldova; their owners pay a different, annual road-use tax.
- Vehicles registered in the Transnistrian region.
- Vehicles of foreign military forces.
- Foreign vehicles travelling with an international transport permit marked “scutit de taxă” (exempt from the fee).
